Keep Your Gym Equipment Performing Like New with These Simple Tips
Good equipment lasts years with a little care. A short routine keeps everything safe and smooth.
A simple maintenance rhythm
- Weekly: wipe down bars and benches, brush knurling to clear chalk and sweat.
- Monthly: check bolts on racks and benches, tighten anything that has worked loose.
- Quarterly: lightly oil barbell sleeves and moving joints; inspect cables for fraying.
Protect the finish
Store plates on a rack rather than the floor, keep bars off damp surfaces, and use collars so plates don't slide and chip. Small habits prevent rust and rattles.
When to call it
Frayed cables, cracked welds or bent bars aren't worth the risk — replace them. Everything else usually just needs cleaning and a turn of the wrench.
