5 Common Strength Training Mistakes and How to Avoid Them
Most plateaus come from a handful of avoidable habits. Fix these and progress usually follows.
The five to fix
1. Ego over form
Loading the bar beyond your technique invites injury and cheats the target muscle. Earn the weight with clean reps.
2. No progression plan
If you lift the same weight for the same reps every week, your body has no reason to adapt. Track your lifts and add load or reps deliberately.
3. Skipping the warm-up
A few ramp-up sets prime your nervous system and joints, so your top sets feel stronger and safer.
4. Neglecting recovery
Muscle is built between sessions. Sleep, protein and rest days are part of the programme, not optional extras.
5. Random exercise selection
Build around the compound lifts, then add accessories that support them — not a different routine every week.
